I Had the Time of My Life

This is from my SS blog challenge. Quite appropriate since I just registered at my 20 year reunion website, after a bit of prodding ;)

Senior Moments-1988
In honor of the new school year, think back to your senior year of high school, and answer these questions accordingly:

1. Who was your best friend?
Kara & Jodi
There were lots of friends, but these two always stand out. Through thick and thin, they were and have ALWAYS been there. I've blogged about my visits home, spending quality time with these girls. We've come a long way in 20 years. They have shaped me in to the friend, wife, mother & woman I am today. Love these girls like sisters, ALWAYS!

2. Did you play any sports?
My senior year, YES. I actually returned to the soccer field after a 5 year hiatus. My boyfriends mom recruited a group of girls for a rec league. We were banged up, bruised and battered. Several of us had played long before, some much more than myself. It was all in good fun.
eta K's version-throwing elbows and cutting bitches down (we were the Bud-Lightettes).
I totally forgot that name!

3. What kind of car did you drive?
A 1982 Pontiac Phoenix, affectionately referred to as "The Bird". As long as it played my tapes, cassette not 8-track, I was good. I ended the year with a brand new Ford Tempo. ACK!!

4. It’s Friday night. Where were you?
Likely at a football game and then pizza, I think. Godfather's by school or there was another place we went that I can't remember the name. If it wasn't football season, we were either hanging out in someone's basement, at Just for Kicks, or in the middle of a field, enjoying beverages we shouldn't have been.
eta - More than likely doing something I shouldn’t have been doing. A lot of the time I was in a field with Cyndy drinking beer with soccer boys.
SHHH!!!!

5. Were you a party animal?
No. Had lots of good times with lots of good friends, just not necessarily at all the raging parties. Smaller, more intimate gatherings:)

6. Were you considered a flirt?
No. I don't think so. I did always enjoy just hanging out with the guys.

7. Were you in the band, orchestra or choir?
No, no, and no. I like to listen to music, but can not create it to save my soul.

8. Were you a nerd?
I don't think so, but they may be some that disagree.

9. Were you ever suspended or expelled?
No. I was generally a "good girl". I was on good standing with most of the teachers and my principal.

10. Can you sing the fight song?
Surprisingly enough, yes I can. Every time I am at the local high school games, it runs through my head.

11. Who was your favorite teacher?
Senora Herdoiza, my Spanish 3, 4 , & 5 teacher. She was just the best. I remember earning bonus pesos for practicing our conversational spanish in the mornings in her room. She loved what she did and it showed. Spanish 5 was the most fun class my senior year. She fostered such great camaraderie and celebrated our success with a true Spanish fiesta.
I loved so many of my teachers, Mrs. Shipley & Miss Mercer especially, but Senora Herdoiza inspired me.

12. What was your school mascot?
The Viking

13. Did you go to the Prom?
Yes. See here
eta-Cyndy and I had the most atrocious royal blue satin dresses that almost matched (we didn’t plan it that way). Hers was strapless and mine had sleeves.
At the time they weren't atrocious, just very 80's

14. If you could go back, would you?
I loved my time in high school. So many great memories. Sure there are things I would do differently if I could go back, but truly, I wouldn't want to. It was a pretty idyllic time.

15. What do you remember most about graduation?
It had rained so there were giant pieces of plywood we had to walk on so we didn't sink into the field. Mr. Krueger's speech, recognizing our class "stars" athletes, scholars, and such, and then recognizing some of us that just made things happen at school, and out of the blue, he said my name mixed in with so many others. I graduated with over 600, so it was an honor to be recognized in that forum.
eta - I remember getting really S*@!faced at SW’s house.
Oh yes we all did!!!!!!!!
16. Where were you on Senior Skip Day?
We couldn't get tickets to the Royals game (I know, hard to imagine), so we headed to the zoo.

17. Did you have a job your senior year?
I know I did some babysitting. I think maybe I worked at JFK some. I can't remember.

18. Where did you go most often for lunch?
We usually went and got a chicken biscuit with cheese from Mrs. Winners during my Pep Club hour. Yes, I said Pep Club hour, what of it. I was an officer, you know. Ha-ha! After that, I wasn't too hungry, so I'd hang in the cafeteria or on the bridge during my lunch period and visit.

19. Have you gained weight since then?
Yes. Anyone who says they haven't is a big FAT liar:) But hey, I'm losing what I've gained. Hoping to be closer to that weight by next summer. I'm well on my way.

20. What did you do after high school?
I went to college in Texas for 2 years. Transferred back to the midwest, met my hubby, graduated, moved back home until marriage, moved here to the Ozarks and started our happily ever after. 12 years, 2 kids, 2 houses later, we're still going strong.

I think a lot about those days. I was blessed with a good family and great friends. I hate that there are so many of them I have lost touch with and hope that in the coming year, as many of us await to upcoming reunion (mind you, I still don't know that I'm going, after the debacle that was the 10 year gathering), I can reconnect with some of the ones that helped make that time a great time of my life.

Felt compelled to add K's answers. She REALLY told it like it was.
